I was brought on to provide strategic direction and hands-on help with managing the social media channels for DTP’s Downtown Container Park, a unique, open-air shopping, dining, and entertainment center made of shipping containers in Downtown Las Vegas.
Plus, I was asked to provide social media training for Downtown Container Park’s retail tenants, who are all small business owners; and to help DTP staff with social media support on a few other DTP properties, such as Oak & Ivy, an American craft whiskey cocktail bar; the Perch, a casual full-service restaurant and bar with a bird’s eye view of live music and entertainment; and Gold Spike, a former casino that’s now a unique venue – co-working space by day and nightlife space by night, plus hotel and apartments above.
For Oak & Ivy, the Perch (renamed Downtown Terrace), and Gold Spike, I briefly ran their social media channels until a new marketing person was hired and a DTP staffer could be trained to take over these three properties’ social media channels. During this time, I helped with developing and publishing social media content, running social media contests, and managing promotional campaigns for events, including social media ad campaigns.
However, my main duties and focus were on Downtown Container Park where I was responsible for developing, managing, and publishing a steady stream of original and curated content, with a high focus on engagement and audience building.
During my time with DTP, I grew Downtown Container Park’s community by 855% on Instagram, 67% on Facebook, and 200% on Twitter, and grew engagement by 967% on Instagram, 32% on Facebook, and 3,437% on Twitter, which helped increase brand awareness, attract new visitors, shoppers, and diners, and increased event attendance.
Social media promotions for events were so successful that some of the paid events sold out; and for some of the free events, the attendance numbers surpassed our goals for the number of attendees!
Events were a key strategy to driving new people to Container Park with the goal of them becoming returning attendees at events; but more importantly, having them become regular shoppers at the retail shops and diners at the restaurants and bars.
In addition, I had the amazing opportunity of working with many of the small business owners that are retail tenants of Downtown Container Park.
I loved teaching and training them on how to use social media marketing more effectively to grow their businesses. I also enjoyed developing content to promote their businesses across Container Park’s social channels to drive more online traffic and foot traffic to their shops, restaurants, and bars.
The shop owners are truly the heart and soul of Downtown Container Park. Be sure to check them out the next time you’re in Las Vegas.
Working with Downtown Project was a three-month project that went so well, it was extended for more than a year!
